The detective could work for weeks on his investigations and discoveries. When he solved or invented something, there was delight in his voice and a genuine, unpretentious admiration for the result. Unfortunately, the great detective also had bad habits: he smoked tobacco and used drugs. But he did it in order to stimulate his brain activity.

Dr. Watson
His faithful friend Dr. Watson is always ready to come to his aid. He never doubted his friend's abilities and sincerely admired him, despite his shortcomings.
Realism of the hero & conformity of the hero to the spirit of the time:

Arthur Conan Doyle created the image of a brilliant man from whom nothing can be hidden, nothing can be concealed, nothing can be hidden from him. He sees ahead, makes ingenious inferences from seemingly simple things.

All this makes Sherlock Holmes an unattainable man. All the actions of the hero speak of his sharp mind, complex, but calm character.
For the reader, Holmes is a hero who does something incredible.
The author was able to perfectly describe London of the 19th century, so the main character turned out to be very realistic: a true Englishman, the most talented man, fighting for justice in the world.

Author's attitude towards the hero:

Arthur Conan Doyle always treats his main characters - the detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson - with respect and some admiration. They are the embodiment of true Englishmen - aristocrats with a sharp mind and sensitive temperament.
